The best banh mi east of Chinatown is at Asian Subs in the Houston tunnels. The banh mi here are about 1000x better than the other banh mi that I had in the tunnels, as this thing is ALMOST authentic! The weird thing is they serve this sandwich with swiss cheese...but the meat tastes similar to what you would get at a Vietnamese establishment and the bread is decent as well. If I end up working downtown next year, I'll definitely confirm that there are MANY banh mis from Asian Subs in my future!
